What are the benefits of owning a biscuit jointer?

Joining two pieces of wood can be accomplished in a variety of ways, but it is important to know which joint to use for which workpiece! One of the best joints is the biscuit joinery.   The biscuit jointer and jointer are both tools used to join two pieces of wood by cutting notches in each piece. The resulting joints are reliable and strong, which prevents your workpiece from moving laterally.   It's very easy to make a biscuit joint when joining two pieces of wood of different thicknesses. Simply attach both workpieces together (and possibly clamp them together), let the glue dry, and you've got a solid joint.   With many biscuit jointers from DeWalt, Makita, Festool and more, Data Powertools has what you're looking for.

Here's how to make biscuit joints

Set your biscuit jointer up first

The manufacturer's instructions (AKA the manual) for your biscuit jointer will guide you exactly on how to set the biscuit jointer up for the proper biscuit size you'll be inserting into the slot. You will also need to set up your biscuit jointer to the correct height for the cut, and we'll explain how to do that below. Refer to your biscuit jointer's manual for information on how to do that. The manual for your biscuit jointer should show you how to adjust the fence to make a variety of angled mitre cuts. As mentioned above, biscuit jointers often have adjustable fences so that you can make a variety of mitre cuts. Dust extraction should be included with high-quality biscuit jointers, so make sure you hook it up before cutting. Make two pencil marks on both pieces where you want the joints to be. Next, line up your biscuit jointer centerline with your pencil marks and cut. You will be able to see your cut clearly with a high-quality biscuit jointer.

How to Make Strong Wood Joints

When using the biscuit jointer, set the depth of cut to half the thickness of the pieces you want to join, and you will ensure that the joint is situated right in the middle. In order to ensure maximum strength of the joint, press down firmly on the thumb rest at the front of the jointer while cutting to prevent any wobbling. A biscuit joint is a great choice for joining two worktops, but traditional worktop bolts are also recommended to ensure maximum strength.
