At our recent woodworking event held at our Cardiff branch we were visited by representatives from Record Power. During the show they demonstrated some of their machinery. Our machinery expert Dave Union was on hand to review some of the machines.
Second up is the Maxi 1 Lathe :

On display at our Cardiff Showroom
Record has combined with Woodfast to produce a fine machine for the serious woodturner. The machine is very heavily built with extensive use of cast iron throughout. With electronic speed control this allows the machine to be operated simply by the user at a speed which is comfortable. People attending our woodworking show saw the machine being demonstrated with little or no vibration.
The key features were the swivel head, heavy duty cast iron stand and legs, electronic variable speed driven by six pulleys, sturdy 1” diameter toolrest spindle and a switch that can be mounted anywhere on the machine.
Other features are 37” between centres, 20” swing over the bed, maximum bowl diameter 30”, speeds from 50-3850rpm and a 1.5hp motor.
The Record Maxi 1 is currently displayed on the machinery floor at our Cardiff Branch.

The Metabo KGS255 is a compact and useful machine. It’s a straight forward tool with few frills, but is robustly made, easy to set and rewarding to use.. The saw is mounted on a wide alloy base with splayed feet for added stability. The revolving table has a press button adjuster for setting the click stops and a threaded handle for in-between settings. It turns to 45° in either direction. The one-piece fence is fairly low but is ready drilled to accept a false fence. The sawhead runs on a pair of rails which are shrouded underneath an aIloy casting that carries the main hinging bracket. This is strongly sprung and has a locking pin. The front handle is comfortably angled towards the user and houses a small trigger and thumb-operated saw guard release that allows the guard to open. The lower guard handily hinges up inside the upper guard. So there’s no chance of catching your fingers.
A gutsy little machine, although its motor is a little fierce the sliding action is beautifully smooth.
This saw is available from Data online or in their local branches located at Cardiff and Bridgend.

From time to time our customers invite us to take a look at the jobs they do using tools purchased from us. We are always proud to see the high quality work that is produced when a craftsman uses the high quality tools that we sell. Here is a quality piece of workmanship from the team at Mcbeth Joinery. They were contacted by a luxury hotel in Switzerland and asked to craft a bespoke sign made from solid oak.

The 8oomm x 70mm solid oak sign was jointed with a Lamello Biscuit Joiner using no 6 biscuits. The design was routed with a Trend router and inlay cutter, then blackened with a pyrography burner. The outer diameter was trammelled with a Dewalt 1/2″ Router using Carb-i-tool Router Cutters. All these tools were supplied by Data.
We are sure you will agree that this is a quality piece of workmanship and will look great at the hotel in Switzerland. Congrats to Mcbeth Joinery. Keep up the good work!
